The first ever otter was photographed in the River Irwell in December 2020 by Peter Openshaw, this was a really significant event and it shows how clearer and less polluted the city’s rivers have become over the last 40 years.
The reason we have chosen the Otter to feature in our trail is because it’s an example of today’s history.
